Review: OxiClean Cleans in 5 Easy Steps

A few years ago I was eating dinner at my mother-in-law's house and got spaghetti sauce on my favorite tie. I immediately panicked and she sought to fix my problem as any mother would do. She got a bowl, filled it with warm water and dumped a spoonful of OxiClean in it. I handed over my tie, she dabbed a rag in the solution of OxiClean and went to work on the stain, leaving a silver dollar sized white spot smack in the middle of my blue tie. My panic erupted into horror. Forget the marinara stain, there was no putting color back into my tie. It went into the trash with the scraps from my dinner. I learned one thing that night: OxiClean is concentrated and I never went near the stuff again.

That is until recently when OxiClean sent me a 3 pound tub of their new and improved formula and a bucket.
Never one to read instructions I thought to myself, Great, just what I need another mop bucket! However I quickly discovered the bucket was for soaking stained items in a gallon or two (not a bowl) of water and a prescribed amount of OxiClean as per the clear and concise directions on the back of the tub. The perfect candidate for such a task, an over-worn, alabaster windbreaker that my son and I occasionally take turns wearing. The collar had turned a funky yellow from age and wear and I have been improperly targeting the stain for years. This time I was determined to get it right.

Step 1: Select the appropriate amount of OxiClean in this case to line 2 on the scoop to 1 gallon of water.

Step 2: Add OxiClean to the solution.

Step 3: Critical Step: Allow the solution to DISSOLVE!

Step 4: Soak your item for 2 - 6 hours in the solution.

Step 5: Wash the item of clothing in a regular wash load. I didn't take a pic of my washing machine because it is an embarrassment to dignified washing machines everywhere.

The Results: The job is done. A clean alabaster, windbreaker.

As you can see the jacket is clean and I have spared a piece of clothing from the garbage. This time I used OxiClean for good and not evil!


What I love most about OxiClean is that when used properly in the washing machine, it allows you to do all your laundry with cold water, making it both eco-friendly and economic for my wallet. Whether whites or colors it all comes out fresh and more importantly, clean.

I also discovered that OxiClean works great in the bathroom, particularly on grout and in those annoying little crevices in your bathroom that look so great when brand new but are absolutely impossible to clean. It also does wonders on jacuzzi tub jets, a favorite bath-time activity of my daughter.
