The Circle of Life

I never knew what it would feel like to be 40 and to have as many years behind me as I potentially do in front of me. I couldn't anticipate what being a father to a boy about to become a man would look like. And I never considered the joy I'd feel watching my daughter perform on stage for the very first time in her very first school performance, as she did yesterday.

Yet here I am in the midst of it all, living it, breathing it, in awe of it, blessed by it and struggling to fight back the tears because of it.

I wonder if my parents felt the same way when I walked the same steps my children are walking.

This is the Circle of Life.
