How To Use Dinner To Communicate With Your Teen

I often find myself frustrated with the glaring deficiencies in my teen son's ability to communicate --- what he's saying, what he means, where he is physically at. He says he'll be somewhere when he needs to be picked up but without being a psychic I know beforehand once I arrive he'll be somewhere else, or just not outside waiting for me. His plans with his friends are erratic and sometimes elaborate, constantly changing cluster-you-know-whats. We often play "Who's On First" because he claims he told me something I never heard him utter once. I often find him unaware of things that need to be done because he claims he never got that pertinent voice mail I left or text I sent. Lately, my mustache and goatee has been getting grayer and grayer.

But when I sit down and think about it long enough I really can't blame him. It's the thing that can't be pried from his hand that's mostly to blame for his, mine and nearly everyone else's often nonsensical way of communicating.

The technology of communication --- the very lifeblood that drives this blog --- the thing that came to make communication and connectivity easier, in the ever evolving ecosystem of communications and Social has created massive holes in effective and basic communication. How many times have you heard or said the following:

Mondays with Michelle: Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

Happy Monday, and Happy back-to-school (for some)!
I took a little trip down memory lane and picked out one of my most popular posts to share with you all today, this one just happens to be about chicken. Who doesn't love chicken? We buy it on our weekly grocery runs, but frequently run out of new ways to cook it up. So here is  a little refresher for you...
I had to laugh when I saw E.Payne’s post last week, A Family of Four & Forty Pounds of Chicken. Mrs. E.Payne, (and the Mr. on the grill) created some really yummy looking dishes with their first 10 pounds of chicken. It got me thinking, how many times do people look in their freezer, see chicken (come on, chicken is always in the freezer) and then turn up their nose and say, “I’m so sick of chicken, what can I make with it now!?”
This post is for those days. 10 Chicken recipes, 10 different ways.

Mondays With Michelle: Summertime Grillin' Side Dishes

The Fourth of July has come and gone, but the summertime grilling season has just begun! Whether you are hosting a cookout or attending one, prepare a yummy side dish that will knock your friends and family off their feet.

Take a look at these yummy ideas...

Cabbage Salad (Recipe by Chef Michelle)

Try a Cabbage Salad instead of Coleslaw and beat the heat and impress your guests at the same time! (Not to mentions it's a little friendly to your waistline!) Same goes for traditional mayo based potato salad, swap the mayo for oil and vinegar and enjoy!

Tangy Potato Salad (Recipe by Martha Stewart)

Spice up your salad by adding some yummy fresh seasonal fruits. Plus the great thing about these salads is that they both take less than 20 minutes to make!

Michelle's Tomato Salad (Recipe by Chef Michelle)

Peach and Arugula Salad (Recipe by Bobby Flay)

Mondays with Michelle: Summertime = Ice Cream Time

Happy Monday Foodie Friends!

With summer officially upon us, now is the perfect time to share my favorite Italian Ice cream spot with you... Paolo's Gelato Italiano in the Virginia Highlands. It is the best ice cream in Atlanta. If you live in Atlanta, like I do and you haven't been, get there asap. If you plan on visiting, include this as a stop on your itinerary. It reminds me of the delish authentic Italian ice cream shops from my home town in Germany, and it doesn't get much better than that!

Friday

TGIF: HD-1, Haute Doggery

Chef Michelle here! Thank God it's Friday! I shared this post on my foodie blog a couple weeks back and I thought it would be an excellent addition for Makes Me Wanna Holler. It's a fun, family friendly (read: inexpensive) place to enjoy a good meal. Enjoy!

Clad in workout gear my good friend and I marched our way down the freedom park trail and eventually landed in the Poncey-Highlands right in front of Top Chef winner Richard Blais's new "Haute" dog joint.

Mondays With Michelle: Rosemary Potatoes

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Today I wanted to share one of my favorite easy side dishes… Rosemary Potatoes. This is for those nights when your family is staring at you with hungry eyes and all you’ve got is some miscellaneous meat defrosted in the refrigerator and no idea what to make with it. These potatoes are great with chicken, beef, lamb, veal, pork. You name it, they potatoes are the perfect compliment!

T.G.I.F.: Grindhouse Restaurant Review

Hello and T.G.I.F! Chef Michelle here and I've got another restaurant review for you. If you love burgers and live in Atlanta or plan to visit, then this one is for you...

I finally made my way over to Grindhouse to experience their "Killer Burgers." I’ve driven past their Piedmont location on numerous occasions, especially since it’s across the street from Fat Matt’s (one of my big time favs).

BURGER TIME!!!

Mondays With Michelle: Baked Crispy Chicken Wings

Today, I have for you a spin on a classic: Chicken Wings! They are usually fried and covered in some type of finger licking sauce (which I love by the way). But in an effort to be a tad more health conscious I have taken to baking them.

Crispy Wings, Baking. Yum...

It’s a pretty simple recipe. You really just need a good spice mix and some time. Here is the recipe…
